Santa Elena [Obata Washed]

The Santa Elena farm is operated by Cafelino. In the hills above Boquete, in Panama’s Chiriquí Province, Cafelino grows several varieties of Arabica coffee, with a focus on sustainability, the preservation of biodiversity, and exclusively hand-picked coffee cherries.

The Obata variety found in our lot is still relatively unknown in the world of specialty coffee. Derived from a breeding program combining Timor Hybrid and Villa Sarchi, it was developed to offer excellent disease resistance while retaining remarkable aromatic potential. When grown at high altitudes, such as in Santa Elena, it produces a smooth, well-structured, and expressive cup. The washed process fully brings out this finesse. After harvest, the pulp is removed from the coffee cherries, followed by a controlled fermentation phase designed to eliminate the mucilage. The “ Whole Beans ” are then washed and slowly dried on African beds.

In the cup, the Obata Washed is rich and indulgent; Brazil nuts add a touch of sweetness, followed by hints of caramel with a luscious creaminess. Finally, notes of dried figs envelop all the aromas and lend this coffee a fascinating balance.
